Defenceman Andrei Markov would like to stay with the Montreal Canadiens past this season and is ready to start talking numbers. Dave DeBusschere Jersey . According to Dave Stubbs of The Montreal Gazette, preliminary talks have begun between Markov – an unrestricted free agent this summer – and general manager Marc Bergevin. „How long thats going to be, you never know,“ he told the newspaper on Monday. „Its not only my decision, (but) also management, the organization. Well see whats going to happen.“ The Gazette adds that while nothing is imminent, Markov is handling the negotiations himself after recently parting ways with his agent Don Meehan of Newport Sports. „Marc (Bergevin) is interested to talk to me but theres nothing specific now,“ he added. „There is nothing I can say right now.“ Markov is in the final season of the three-year, $17.25 million deal he signed in June of 2011. “Maybe Im going to sign another contract tomorrow. Maybe in another month. Well see,” he told The Gazette. “Id like to stay here for the rest of my career. You can see some players in their 40s who still play. I dont want to think that far. Whatever is going to happen tomorrow will happen tomorrow.” The 35-year-old has five goals and 24 points in 46 games with the Canadiens this season and is a plus-9.
